- About Us
Year 5 gave a superb, professional performance last week of their interpretation of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' by William Shakespeare at King James 1 Academy, Bishop Auckland, in front of a packed audience of parents, teachers, Head Teachers, Governors, The Royal Shakespeare Company and fellow pupils from 5 schools. Audience members and performers came from schools in the Crook area, Darlington, Ferryhill and Sunderland.
The children told the story of the end of the play in five distinct and wonderfully acted scenes. The beginning of the play was performed in seven scenes, just as wonderful, the day before, by pupils from 6 other schools from around our region. The teachers have all received training from The Royal Shakespeare Company throughout the year and met to discuss ideas to enhance performance, costume, scenery, etc.
All our children in Miss Vaughan's class took part and put 100% effort into their rehearsals and final performance. They said it was a shame it was all over and would love to perform again. They certainly displayed a lot of talent onstage; we even had our own band and played live to accompany our dance which was also choreographed by the children themselves.
The Royal Shakespeare Company representatives said they were absolutely delighted by our festival and that the performances were " A real treat to watch." We are looking forward to starting a new project with them in September. Congratulations Year 5; you are real stars!
