Shakespeare Success in Stratford

Published on Thursday 28 July 2016 by Crook Primary.

Following Y5's success at our Shakespeare Festival in March, staff and children from all of our eleven cluster schools travelled to Stratford to take part in the Royal Shakespeare Company's 'Dream Team 2016' Festival based on Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.' After weekly rehearsals we gave a dress rehearsal for parents in Crook before travelling to Stratford upon Avon, birthplace of the man himself, to perform at The Royal Shakespeare Company's stage 'The Dell.'

We had an overnight stay so we could do see Shakespeare's birthplace and school and explore The Royal Shakespeare Theatre. We also had time for games, a picnic in the park and a visit to the oldest, spookiest house in the town.

Crook Primary was represented by Demi Anjorin from 5V who was amazing. He was very dedicated and never missed a rehearsal. The RSC said our performance was 'the best we've seen.' Fifty other schools traveled to Stratford to perform and others held celebrations at their own schools this year, to commemorate 400 years since the death of Shakespeare.

While we were there, Mrs Gentles gave a presentation to delegates attending the RSC's Symposium, 'Whose Culture?' where she told them about the wonderful Shakespeare work our children in Crook do every week. The RSC said that our work was 'inspirational.' We can't wait for September when we enter a new phase of work with the RSC, starting a new programme of work with our cluster schools, led by Mrs Gentles at Crook Primary. It's going to be an exciting year!
