Working with The Royal Shakespeare Company

Published on Wednesday 29 November 2017 by Mrs Gentles.

Last month Mrs Gentles attended training with The Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford upon Avon. As usual, the RSC worked to the very highest standards with a group of teachers from across England. Mrs Gentles gave a presentation to teachers about the work of our cluster of Durham and Sunderland schools led by Crook Primary School.

The rest of the time was spent planning and organising for the second year of our Associate Schools Programme. This programme has followed on from our very successful involvement in the RSC's Learning Performance Network, which we joined in 2009. We have another exciting year of Shakespeare ahead of us.

Earlier this month the RSC's director, James Farrell, came to Crook Primary to train our cluster of teachers who are working hard with their children to produce some innovative performances of Macbeth for our Shakespeare Festival at King James 1 Academy next March. He was very inspirational and all teachers left school that day feeling they had learned a lot and excited and prepared to tackle this wonderful play with their pupils.

In February they RSC's actors will arrive in Crook Primary to perform a children's version of 'Julius Caesar' for us. Tickets will go on sale in the New Year, so look out for information about this exciting event which will take place on Wednesday 28th February 2018. The actors have visited us twice before and always produce an amazing performance for the whole family.
