'Too Hot to Handle' - time zones.

We kicked off our topic 'Too Hot to Handle' this week by investigating globes and atlases as this topic has a geography focus. Today, Year 4 learned about time zones and their significance. This included understanding why there is day and night as well as understanding different time zones. We used a light (to represent the sun) and a globe to show the Earth to demonstrate this.

Children were then given tasks to complete. These included colouring a picture to show why and how day and night occurs, creating a simple story board of their activities at different times of the day in contrast to a child living in another time zone, taking into account the time difference and explaining what a time zone map is showing, giving examples of specific countries and their time differences, and why they exist.
