Our day as an Amazon tribe

This week we have launched on new topic for the half-term, 'How can we protect the tribes of the Amazon', by having a day with no contact with the rest of the school. As part of the day we made our own bread and baked it over an open fire, ignited our own fires, began to research and produce information for our displays, and learned about traditional dance including writing their own tribal songs.

On the afternoon, we tried 'wild hog' from the Amazon rainforest like the indigenous people of the area would have to hunt. We also performed our dances to the rest of the year group to give a show of strength.

In the rest of the topic, we will be focusing on the continent of South America linking it with the Sustainable Development Goals, and particularly the impact that we are having on our Earth through the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.

We really hope that the children have enjoyed today as much as we have and will remember this learning for years to come.
