It's beginning to look a lot like ... Autumn!

This week we have learnt all about Autumn. We had lots of fun going on an Autumn walk around the school. We noticed that the trees had no leaves on them anymore, as they had changed colour and fallen off. The children also said they could hear "crunching leaves" and they found lots of sticks, pinecones and conkers which had been blown from the trees by the breezy Autumn weather! We also talked about how the days are darker and shorter in Autumn time. We used a torch to represent the sun and a ball to represent Earth and talked about why we get day and night time!

We also learnt that the animals hibernate in the Autumn, as it is too cold for them to find any food. We worked in groups to build the hedgehogs a warm, safe den for them to hibernate in throughout the winter time. We had to make sure that he would not be found by predators so we hid the den with leaves, grass and sticks. The children did a great job learning new vocabulary this week linked to our topic such as Hibernation, Den and Predator. Maybe they could tell you what these words mean?
