The End of a Chapter

Published on Thursday 4 March 2021 by Miss Roberts.

This week has been very busy but we have loved every minute of it!

We have carried on with our mini topic, 'Dinosaurs', and it has been magical to see how much the children have loved their learning. We stepped back in time last week to identify the different dinosaurs and this week the real fun took place. We learned all about how dinosaurs became extinct! The children (parents and Mrs H, Miss Nicholas and Miss O'Connor) did an excellent job to re-enact the events that unfolded resulting in the extinction of dinosaurs. We saw volcanoes erupting and asteroids hitting the Earth - it really was incredible to look through all the photos and videos. If this wasn't enough, well the children have also created fossils and even became palaeontologists to find the fossils!

Following on from our learning of dinosaurs we know that we can find out lots of information from books. World Book Day came at a perfect time for us and it was so wonderful to see the children igniting their love for reading as they delved into the magical depths of the pages in their story books. The children took our World Book Day challenges and ran with them - your dens were incredible! It was also lovely to see some children dressed up and also the efforts that went into creating your story book crowns. Well done!

It was brilliant to see all the children engaged in our celebrations yesterday. We were asked to choose winners from our class for either dressing up or the crown challenge we set. Well done to Sofia Embleton from RF and Olivia Ryan from RR who won our competition.

We have just a few days left before we return to school. We are all extremely excited to see the children. We know that it is going to be different and may be a little bit of a shock for the children to return to the school routine but we are here to make this transition as easy as it can possibly be. All of the staff in Reception are really looking forward to Monday and we want to make sure that all your children are safe and happy so please try to relax over the weekend, any questions that you may have then please email them to us at earlyyears@crookprimaryschool.org.uk.

We have a couple of notices for your information for our return to school:

PE days for Reception (that is BOTH classes) are Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school dressed in PE kit on these days and make sure to have a pair of outdoor trainers to wear. PE kit consists of navy or black tracksuit bottoms and a white t-shirt.

The weather can't seem to make its mind up at the moment so as before, please make sure your child comes to school with a jumper, coat and wellies. Wellies will be left in school and sit underneath your child's peg to avoid them being lost. With the latter point in mind, please, please, please label all of your child's belongings. If something decides to go walkabouts we have a much better chance of reuniting the kit if it is labelled.

Finally, a HUGE THANK YOU to every parent that has made sure their child has attended the LIVE sessions as well as handing in their work. Miss Fox and I truly believe you are superheroes - we don't know how you've done it but we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being with us everyday. It has been wonderful to see many of the children thriving whilst also being able to build a relationship with all of you. Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you all bright eyed and bushy tailed on Monday morning.
