Another week on the Farm

Published on Friday 7 May 2021 by Miss Dickinson.

This week we have continued our farm topic and have been learning all about animals and their babies. The children had to match the babies to their mothers and also learn the names of the baby animals as they have different names. We also learnt about where animals live on a farm. The children showed they have a love for animals and were very good at matching the baby animals to their mothers.

We also had lots of fun in PE with Mrs Thompson. This week's objective was to find different ways of moving the ball from one end of the mat to the other. The children thoroughly enjoyed using their feet to move the ball, they put it under their chins to carry it and also worked as a team to balance the ball on some paper to get it into the bucket. The children loved this session even though it was quite tricky and we had to try hard!

We have also continued learning a new sound and number this week. Our new sound was 'a' and the children had to sort objects that begin with the letter a, go on a letter hunt around nursery to see if they could find and a and also try very hard to form the letter 'a' using our mnemonic 'around the apple and down the leaf'. We have also been learning all about the number 1 this week. Our activities included recognising, saying, finding, showing and writing the number 1. The children are really enjoying learning a new sound and a number of the week. Well done everyone!

Our little rays of sunshine this week are Luke McLean for being a kind friend and trying to help his friends at group time. Noah Agar for trying very hard to write his name. Layth Al Soliman for joining in some group activities and really enjoying playing with the lycra. Grace Greensmith for trying very hard during group time and doing a fantastic job of matching the animals and their babies. Finally, Oliver Fullarton as he was a superstar at spotting our new sound 'a' both indoors and outdoors. He also had a very good try at forming the letter too. Well done to you all, what superstars!
