A big welcome back and Happy New Year to all our families. We have enjoyed hearing about all the children's celebrations over the festive season and sure you all had a wonderful time together!
Concept cat came to visit school again and taught the children about tall and short in maths. They have done a lot of measuring and comparing around the classroom and outside. They have looked at objects and their friends to see if they are taller than or shorter than them. Please encourage your child to continue using this vocabulary and help them notice things around them in your day to day activities.
Our new topic this half term is 'Around the world'. We hope you have enjoyed seeing all the photographs on Dojo of what your children have been getting up to. We kicked started our journey around the world in Africa, linking to our story Handa's Surprise. Handa lives in a small village in Africa and decides to take a surprise of a variety of fruit to her friend in a neighbouring village but by the time Handa arrives she is the one who gets a big surprise. This story has led us on to some lovely discussions about environments and what is the same or different between life in Africa and life in Britain as well as what it is to be a good friend to others. The children have also had a lovely discussion with Mrs Thompson about her recent visit to Vietnam and asked a whole array of good questions!!
The children used all their phonic knowledge to write their own method for making a fruit salad and on Friday they all had a turn at carefully slicing and cutting up a variety of fruit from the story. The fruit they tried was passion fruit, mango, pineapple, banana and avocado and we were very impressed at their willingness to try something new, well done everyone!
