January is the perfect time to pick up a paintbrush

Since we returned in early January, we have been continuing our hard work on multiplication and division. The students have finally been introduced to the 8 times table and have had the opportunity to apply this knowledge within their work. We have since taken this a step further and the pupils have been working with multiplication and division number sentences. They are now equipped with an array of methods and approaches to such number problems and have enjoyed applying their newfound skills to their math work.

In English, we have been reading The Explorer. A fantastic book about a group of young children, whose pilot unfortunately falls ill during a trip above the Amazon. This leaves the children stranded in the rainforest, with no sign of help, and only their wits and courage to help them survive. We have been getting into character and imagining how the main character Fred felt, detailing our experience in diary form, based on what has happened in the story so far.

In topic these last few weeks we have been taken back to the 1800's to experience the world renowned works of the painter Vincent van Gogh. We have studied several of his most famous masterpieces and highlighted the unique ways in which he painted them. The students have had their own opportunity to apply what they have studied, by creating their own artistic masterpieces in the style of Vincent van Gogh.
