Here comes the fire truck!

Our week started with a visit to Crook Fire station which we all really enjoyed. We had lots of fun learning all about the role of a fire fighter and seeing some of the equipment that fire fighters use. We were very lucky we had the opportunity to be fire fighters by sitting in the fire engine as well as squirting the hose. Thank you so much to Crook Fire station for having us, we had a great time.

Our morning children have also learnt a new sound this week. It was 'a'. We learnt how to say the sound correctly, we learnt about items that start with a as well as forming the letter a correctly using the rhyme 'round the astronauts helmet then down into space'.

We also learnt about number 1. We looked at what it looks like, what it means, can we give 1 object and how to form it correctly. The children are really enjoying being sound and number detectives at nursery.

Our afternoon children have been singing Five little Fireman using resources and seeing what happens when one is taken away. We have also been playing a memory game and enjoying the sunshine outside in the nursery garden.

Our little rays of sunshine this week are Ethel Ross as she impresses me everyday with her maths skills. She is a superstar at group time and can tell me how many girls we have, how many boys we have, if we have more girls or boys, how many altogether and if we had 1 more in our group how many we would have altogether. She is developing a good understanding of number. Sahil Sharifi for doing a great job with our number one this week. He was able to show me one, give me one and could identify the number one. Sahil also did a great job of finding the sound 'a' in our room saying “Miss Kitching look”. His confidence has also grown so much and he will now say “Miss Kitching what's this?” and point to the object he wants to know about. Louie Hopper for having a great week. He has impressed with how hard he has worked at group time, listening to others and concentrating on the task at hand. Louie also did an amazing job walking to the fire station and he thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Nova Richards as she did a great job at matching the numerals to the amount of fire fighters when singing Five Little Fireman standing in a row. Nova is becoming more confident when counting and representing numbers. Erin Hodkinson for doing great listening at our fire station trip. She also really impressed me when she remembered they had to wear “Jackets and coats and hats and boots”. Finally, Esmé Dickens as she has impressed during a Kim's game. She joined in and was able to tell me what had gone missing. Well done to you all, what superstars!
