Mrs Hunter's Singing Challenge

While the school is closed Mrs Hunter is setting a challenge to learn and perform a song each week. The challenge and any videos that are sent to us will be shown on this page.

Three Little Birds Revisited

Published on Monday 13 July 2020 by Crook Primary.

We started with this song almost 4 months ago, and I thought it'd be good to look back and remember how we felt at the time. I was nervous of what was to come and sad that we had to spend so long apart as a school. I missed my friends and family and wondered how long it would continue for. We have come a long way since then. It is always good to look back and see how far you have come! I've managed to learn some basics on the guitar!

I hope everyone has a restful summer and I can't wait to see you all in September. Thank you to everyone who has sent me in videos, they have been brilliant!

Take care,
Mrs Hunter

Mr Blue Sky

Published on Monday 6 July 2020 by Crook Primary.

With only two more weeks before the end of the summer term, I thought I would share with you one of my favourite songs. I listened to it when I was young, and am sure some of you will recognise it from a recent film! I wonder if you can remember the name of the film? I would love to know some of your favourite songs too.

Take care,

Mrs Hunter

Dancing in the Moonlight

Published on Monday 29 June 2020 by Crook Primary.

Many songs are covers - they have been written before and have been performed by many different people. Listening to the charts this week, I heard a song I recognised, but sung by different people. It is 'Dancing in the Moonlight'. I remember the Toploader version from 2000, but when I looked, it had been covered before! Are there any songs you know which are covers?

Take care,

Mrs Hunter

Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield

Published on Monday 22 June 2020 by Crook Primary.

This week includes National Writing Day (June 24th). I was thinking about writing and how it is a fantastic way of expressing our feeling and emotions, how writing or receiving a letter in the post is a wonderful experience and how songs are like poems and stories. I thought of singing this song, and when I read the words, I thought that the idea that our lives are a story, of which we are the author, was interesting. What do you want your story to be? Remember, your story is yours to write!

Take Care,

Mar Hunter

    Eye of the Tiger

Published on Monday 15 June 2020 by Crook Primary.

To help you with your Sport Week activities, I have recorded Eye of the Tiger from the Rocky films. Rocky was a boxer who had to show real determination to succeed, and was defeated many times along the way. Do you best with your physical challenges this week - you could even play this song while completing them!

    Good luck,

    Mrs Hunter

    True Colours by Cyndi Lauper

Published on Monday 8 June 2020 by Crook Primary.

This week, there have been protests across the world at the injustices shown to people because of the colour of their skin. This song reminds us all to let our inner colours shine through, treat all people with respect and never to judge anyone based on a characteristic. You should only ever judge a person by their actions and deeds.

    Space Oddity

Published on Monday 1 June 2020 by Crook Primary.

With the first successful launch of Space X, we have this week put together a rendition of David Bowie's Space Oddity. This was inspired by the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was in turn based on a short story by Arthur C. Clarke. There are many examples of literature, music and the arts influencing science and technology - can you or your family think of any?

      This Week's Song

Published on Tuesday 19 May 2020 by Crook Primary.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and especially at this time it is really important to help and support each other. Many of us are struggling with the effects of the Coronavirus and especially missing family and friends. This song, released by The Beatles in 1965 is all about asking for help from those close to you.

We are all looking out for each other - remember to take care of yourselves too.

      Take care,

      Mrs Hunter

      This Week's Song

Published on Monday 11 May 2020 by Crook Primary.

This Saturday was supposed to be the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. Sadly it has been cancelled, but I thought I would look back at the last time the UK won. It was in 1997 and the song was Love Shine A Light by Katrina and the Waves. This week, we have added in some harmony. This is where two people sing different notes at the same time, but the compliment each other!

Thank you for all the videos you are sending through - they are really brilliant!

With it being the 75 anniversary of Victory in Europe day on Friday it would be great to see some versions of this. The song has been released to help support the NHS and features the original forces sweetheart, Dame Vera Lynn.
