Trick or Treat!

Published on Wednesday 20 October 2021 by Mrs Fox.

This week we have had lots of spooky fun learning all about Halloween. We talked about why we celebrate Halloween and the different traditions that are carried out in different countries such as Mexico, America and Scotland. We have also been putting our imaginations into action, by role playing in the haunted house and making magic potions with slime! These opportunities enabled the children to use some wonderful vocabulary such as creepy, slimy, magical, disgusting and terrifying. We also learnt some new vocabulary within our Maths lessons when we measured the length of some creepy Halloween objects such as short, long, shorter, shortest, longer and longest.

The most exciting part of the week was when we worked together to carve our pumpkins. The children loved getting messy and were brave enough to get their hands in the pumpkins to scoop out all of the seeds! It was a great sensory experience for us all to explore the slimy, gooey pumpkin!

We would just like to say we are very proud of each and every child for working so hard in their first half term and we hope you all have a relaxing and restful break! School will be closed on Friday 22nd of October for a training day and we will return on Monday 1st November. On this day (1st November) we would like to invite all children to come to school in a homemade Halloween fancy dress costume. Prizes will be awarded for the two most creative costumes in each year group. We look forward to seeing how creative you all are!
