We have loved finding out more about where we live in Geography this term. The children showed impeccable behaviour, as they explored Crook, identifying human and physical features, completing a pedestrian count and making fantastic sketches.
In English we have begun our new text, 'The Magic Finger' and pupils have shown some excellent inference skills. We have also developed our knowledge of Time in Mathematics and can't wait to take part in the house team challenge next month!
Towards the end of term we will investigate different Art techniques to represent our History learning about the Great Fire of London. We can't wait to see the work produced!
As we start the new term, the children have demonstrated amazing empathy skills and fact recall, whilst discussing our learning of the Great Fire of London. Handwriting work was presented beautifully, as the children presented their letters using a feather quill, like Samuel Pepys would have used for his famous diary!
In our VIPERs Vocabulary work, pupils impressed us with their understanding of tricky language explored in William Shakespeare's, The Tempest. We can't wait to see where this learning takes us.
To complete their unit of mathematics work, the children used their combined learning to produce and discuss the properties of 3D shapes with their peers!
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning about the UK. During this work, we will carry out some fieldwork in Crook Town Centre and further details will be sent out closer to the time. We look forward to the children sharing their knowledge of their local area!
We just celebrated one of our favourite days of the year here in Y
World Book Day! Children are always enthusiastic about World Book Day and dressing up, however this years group of children have set the bar high for any upcoming Y2s! We had Roald Dahl characters, people from the Harry Potter franchise and so many fabulous homemade outfits.
We had the treat of a visit from a story teller that reminded us of our of our favourite poets - Michael Rosen. The storyteller told us tales of Africa and animals, crying babies and conundrums! We read in unusual places and completed quizzes, the day really flew by!
We will be completing a week of quizzes next week and the following week is parents evening. Please call the office to arrange an appointment. We hope to see you in school soon!
This week we celebrated Children's Mental Health week and we ended the week by wearing our own clothes to express ourselves!
We have been incredibly lucky to work with a sports coach, learning how to play basketball and soft ball. We thoroughly enjoyed learning some new skills and had fun doing the warm up games too.
In Maths this week, we have been learning about Money. We have been adding totals using pence and pounds. We have enjoyed working in pairs to find totals and we are now much more confident with all things money related!
We said a fond farewell to Miss Adlington last week who has left us to begin a new and exciting career. Although it was sad, it was also a time for us to remember all of the fun times we have had together over the year. We are super excited to welcome Mrs Turner into Year 2 and can't wait to see what they rest of the year will hold!
Last week we discussed different musical styles and focused specifically on listening to Bossa Nova, a Samba type of music similar to Jazz. We spoke about what instruments we could hear, what the beat was like and how it made us feel. Lots of children said it made them feel “happy” and “want to dance”. We copied the pulse of the song and learnt the words ready for a singing performance. Alongside this, we then improvised with claps and a glockenspiel whilst following the pulse and tempo. We eventually built this up to playing the glockenspiel to set notes whilst singing at the same time. We had some amazing performances and the children had so much fun and excitement for each music lesson! Well done, Year 2!
