Getting Fit, Strong and Healthy in Science!

Today we talked about what exercise is and why is it important. We discussed what would happen to our bodies without exercise and what happens to our bodies with exercise; the effect is has on our hearts, muscles, bones and lungs. We gave examples of different exercises and discussed which parts of our bodies have to work hard in order to do them and therefore which part of our bodies get stronger. We spoke about our heart and our pulse and where to find our pulse. After some exercise we analysed what was happening to our pulse and therefore what was going on in our body - what was our heart having to do? We then looked at various exercises (squats, mountain climber, various stretches, star jumps, marching etc) and spoke about how we safely do them and the fact exercise is good for our body if we do it safely. We worked in partners to make our own exercise routine. We then reflected upon our exercise and discussed what happened to our breathing and pulse and said what would happen if we did that everyday? What would happen to our body and breathing? We would get stronger, healthier and fitter!
